My Goldfish Plant

Here is my goldfish plant that I have beeen growing for about 2 years. Right now it is prollific with blossoms and is so pretty and a great way to welcome in spring. It does bloom all year, though this is the most blooms it has had at one time.

I have rooted a piece of it and will be selling it in my peppers2 store. It is a bright spot all winter with the little orange blossoms that look like a goldfish, and it is really easy to grow... meaning it takes a lot of abuse, and still flourishes.

Our Blankets

I have talked about doing blankets for Project Linus a lot, and here are what we have so far. The first 8 blankets are done and ready to go to a deserving child. There are 4 more blankets started, and should be done soon.

Hats and mittens are in the works also. We are quite proud that we have been able to do this much without our Audrey. But doing this in her honor keeps us going.

A Neat Idea

This is a really pretty spring scarf. I took what would normally be a carry-along, and knit it up by itself with size 17 needles. It can be found in my store as of yesterday. There are so many things you could do with this. Use it for a belt, a headband, tie it in a bow and attach it to your purse. It is so light and airy it could be used all summer long.

I am really busy these days crocheting for the Linus Project. I'm trying to also work on items for my store. So, you know I won't be getting into much trouble.......no time!!

Ribbon Knitting

I have had this ribbon yarn for a long time, and was always afraid to try knitting with it. Yes, I was intimidated.

I finally got it out when I found this lovely pattern for a simple collar calling for ribbon yarn. Well, I love it!!. It was really easy to work with, and I really didn't find it a problem. You do have to watch and make sure that you aren't twisting the ribbon too much.

This will be in my Pepper2 Store.

Most of my knitting these days has been for the "Linus Project". They provide Paul Newman's "Hole in the Wall" Camp for cancer kids with blankets for the children to take home. They have about 800 children go through the camp each summer, and each child gets a blanket. Last year we did 10 blankets. We hope to do it again this year.

My sister posted on her blog that she had ordered a "surprise package" from Stitches N Things, and showed a picture of her loot. I was amazed at what she received, so I decided to order one for myself. WOW!! What lovely items. Here is a picture, which does not do it justice. I received some beautiful blue linen, some black linen, a picture frame, some charts, some books with charts, a thread cutter, two kits, and some specialty floss. Besides this... it all came in a tote. I will be using the blue linen right away. The specialty yarn is something I had on my list for the next trip to the craft store. The tote ----- I had just been wishing for a lighter tote to take to my knitting group on Wednesdays. Taa Daa!!! Here it is! The kits are nice, and one is expecially nice because it is a "beginner's" hardanger. I just might try it. Don't know if my eyes will cooperate, but I will try. I may send the books to my stitching friend in Bolton Landing. Since cross stitch is difficult for me anymore with my eyesight not what it was 20 years ago.

For those of you that do cross stitch... try this little surprise package. It is well sorth it, and such fun to receive.

My Ever and Ever On-Going Project

This is a very large round tablecloth. It has stitching in the middle as well as all around the outside edge. I started this about 4 years ago. Got tired of it. Started it again last year.... got tired of it, and now.... here we go again. When it is done it will be beautiful. A whole lot of work for one item!!! This one will be just for me. Just to prove that I have good intentions, I bought a little lamp to match and put on the table where it will go.

When it is done, I will be posting the final result here. Watch for it soon.... or next year.

The Red Bird is Done

One More Thing.......Our future in good hands

I live in Senior Housing, a 2 story building with 36 individual apartments. Yesterday, we had a luncheon for the immediate family of our friend and neighbor Audrey.
Her 11 children and their spouses, 28 grandchildren - including some spouses, and great grand children. Approximately 50 people -- or more.
We had this luncheon in our community room and it spilled over into our lobby.
There were many..many teens, and tweens amoung this large group. I was, as I watched this beautiful family, very impressed. With all those children, there was not one with a pouty (I-can't-be-with-my-friends) face or sulking. They did not run around, and they were not obnoxiously boisterous. There was, I saw some friendly teasing and cajolling. Mostly, there was respect and courtesy. Not just with the adults, but with one another. One could see all these children had a mutual love for each other that almost seemed to make them like a single unit.
Audrey raised her children with rules and lots of love, and taught them well. Now, I can see her children are doing the same for their children.
This is Audrey's legacy....... and the world will be a better place for a long time to come.

A Tribute

My beautiful knitting pal Audrey, passed away this morning. In an earlier blog I described the knitting group I belong to, and Audrey was a long time member. Here, as usual, she is crocheting for one of her many grand children.

With 11 children, 28 grand children, and too many to count great grand kids, she had to knit and crochet real fast. She learned to do it fast when her children were little. If she didn't do it fast it would never get done in between taking care of all those children.

She also very often would be knitting and crocheting "chemo caps", hats for preemie's, and mittens and hats by the dozen for the church to give to the less fortunate at Christmas.

Audrey was a beautiful person, inside and out. I am proud to say she was my friend. We will surely miss her.

Here you see the result of a 3:00 am brain fart. I woke up, and my creative mind was going a mile a minute. I couldn't wait to do this one, as Valentine's Day is close at hand. It has now been posted for sale at my peppers2 store.

There are 2 more ideas that I have now on a little scketch pad, and I will soon be doing those also. One has to do with dandelions, and the other cocktails. .. .. .. Got you curious? Stay tuned.

I am also working like mad on a custom order for my knitting, which is boring because it is just plain knit from here to Albany and back (30 miles). Beautiful when it is done, but no creative ability needed.

I have not posted to my blog recently, because I'm so very busy with my store. I really thought January would be a down month to get some things done just for myself.
I have had several custom orders, and the regular orders,... and well, I just keep packaging them and shipping as fast as I can.
Being on "Etsy", it is expected to give personal service to each and every customer. I do this with glee, and eagerly answer all questions, and order special yarn when called for. I love the people who become my customers, and end up considering them part of my "family".
So now, I am off to order more yarn, and knit like crazy filling orders.

Je t'aime... and some little flowers on monet linen. How good does it get!

The linen is some my sister sent me, and I always said "I like it" when I came across it while chosing linen for my embroidery. When I saw t his "J t"aime" embroidery, I knew I had the right thing for this cloth. I intend to put it in a hoop frame, and put it in my Peppers2 store. This was really fun to do. especially chosing the floss. For the flowers, I used two different colors together.

The little bird has just been transered to linen , and will be my next project in embroidery. You can see the floss colors I have chosen, with bright red for the bird. I will use two colors together (again) for the pine cone.

It Is Taking Shape

I have been working on my present that my sister sent, and it is beginning to really look like something. It is lots of fun to do, and even though I save it for my "to do" while I'm doing my medical treatment (every 4 hours), I often extend the time and just keep right on working on it.
My neuropathy in my fingers means that I cannot feel the yarn. This makes life interesting, to say the least. This particular yarn is thin and light like a feather. Sometimes I spend more time figuring out if I have a hold on the yarn, or if I have a hand full of air. Once it is threaded on the needle though, I'm good to go. There is one small area that I am going to take out and do over. I'm just not satisfied with the way it looks.
I have the first crewel embroidery I ever did, and the first needlepoint I ever did, and they both are framed and hang in my bathroom. This will never go in my bathroom!! It is just too beautiful, and will get a prominent spot where people can ooooh and aaaah when they enter the room.
I will post another picture when it is fully finished.

A Book for Crocheters

Recently, I received a wonderful book from my friend, Dottie, in Florida. This isn't "just a friend", we have been friends since 2nd grade. We went through grade school and high school together, double dated, had sleep-overs, and all the things young ones do. We lost track of each other for several years until someone decided to have a "Grade School Reunion". We picked up where we left off just like we had seen each other yesterday. Dottie is also crafty, like I am, however, she doesn't knit... she crochets. She thought I would like this book, since I also crochet.

"Hooked For Life, Adventures of a Crochet Zealot" is a marvelous book, with somemthing for the crocheter and knitter alike. The author writes of her stash, which her daughter named "Mount Yarn", and UFO's (unfinished objects) and WIP's (works in progress). She writes of different types of yarn, and all the styles of crocheting. She even goes into the history of crocheting. All this with a wonderful sense of humor that keeps you smiling and nodding in agreeement throughout the book.

She writes on crochet in public.. "I am rarely without a hook and a ball of yarn within grabbing distance. It's as if I have a wooly umbilical cord that will only let me get so far away from the possibility of needlework, and I don't want to get too far lest it snap and cut off some vital nuitrients. Crochet, for me, is an ambulatory mood-altering substance that is both completely legal and unlikely to spill and make a mess." Author: Mary Beth Temple

I know there are several crocheters, and also knitters out there with the same feeling.

I loved this book so much, that I went out and purchased one for a dear crocheting friend that needs a smile about now, and my copy will be passed along to other crocheters so that they might also enjoy the smiles and giggles that I had.

If you are into yarn at all for any reason I highly recommend this wonderful book.

Back Again with a completed project (almost)

I must admit I have been sick. Some kind of stomach thing going around. I won't bore you with details.

I did, however, finish embroidering this wonderful Queen Anne's Lace. A few hundred french knots and ta da!! .. done. Actually this was fun to do. Now, all I need is the inspiration to do something with it. I am totally undecided. Should I put it on a pillow cover??, or should I just frame it??. Putting it on a pillow cover is a lot more work than framing it. In fact, I might just put it in a hoop, put a backing on it and wha la... done. I do know that the simpler the better with this one. Anything fancy would take away from the embroidery. I do intend to put a white bow where the little leaf is that holds the stems together. Just a small one.

Any more ideas?

My B-Day Gift

Well, I opened my gift and here it is. An unusual gift, but a very special one indeed. I saw this kit quite some time ago, and called my sister and told her I was absolutely in love with this style of stitching, (it's called "long stitch") and I loved the theme, however the price of the kit was beyond me. I said maybe some day I would splurge. She remembered!! Now, I can't wait to finish up my current project and do this one. It looks like fun, looks pretty easy, and I do like the look of the finished product.

It's My Birthday

Above is the gift I received from my sister in St. Louis. I am showing the package before unwrapping because it is done so beautifully, I almost don't want to open it. The ribbon is two different styles of yellow.. one yellow and white print, and one gold. The wrapping paper is not paper... it is yellow organza. How unique, and so vey beautiful. Tomorrow is my birthday, so I will open it tomorrow and reveal the contents.

I have been remiss in posting to my blog for a bit. I have been knitting hats and mittens for the pregnant ones at my dental office, and knitting hats with left over yarn to send to the church in downtown Albany. I remember when I went to school in Albany how bitter cold it was. Hopefully the hats will find good homes. Also, my Etsy stores have been very busy. I am looking forward to taking my receipts and purchasing more yarn for more wonderful thing to put in my stores. It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling that my items will be enjoyed in many areas of the USA, A baby will get mittens in Minnesota, a pregnant woman in Oklahoma will lift her spirits with one of my colorful neckwarmers.........etc. The joy of my knitting felt throughout all the lower 48.

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. So much to give thanks for this year!!! How lucky I am.

UGH!!

Well, after getting my computer fixed, my printer decided to hiccup. In order to get to the back of the printer, I had to practically tear my computer room apart from the seams. Everything had to be moved. And, of course, "everything" was small items, that now need to be put away, put back or just thrown away.
So, for a bit, I will not be doing pictures. A shame, because I love showing off, but I really need to get my shique (sic) back together so I can think.
Meantime, I will be knitting, and I have decided that from now until Christmas I will be knitting for friends, family and charity. First on the list is a watchcap for my son, who had the last one I made stollen. (or lost, or whatever). Then, I have some friends having babies, and then there are the homeless men in Albany who need hats, and the kids struggling in School who need warm scarves and hats. I can't save the world, but maybe, just maybe, I can make a difference in one person's life.

Featured Etsy Artist - Lise Winne

Lise Winne is a wonderful new artist in the Etsy community. As soon as I saw her paintings on the cards on display in her store I was in awe, and smiling from their beauty and marvelous use of color.

Lise's store, lisewinne, is just full of her beautiful cards, not just for Christmas but for all occasions, and wonderful enough for framing after their use as a card.

Lise has a Masters Degree in Art Education, and a BA in Fine Art, and has taught art in the school system for K - 12. She is a juried artist with art in many Art Centers and Museums throughout the USA. It is so great to see such talent coming to the Etsy site which is devoted to handmade and art of the finest degree.

Lise also has a "love interest" in pottery because of it's versatility and challenge. Though she doesn't have any pottery in her store yet, I'm sure she will soon, and I'm very anxious to see it. Pottery was her original art interest, and she branched out to painting, and other mediums for teaching purposes.

She is also a professional musician -- a member of 2 bands, and has performed professionally since 1990. I have listened to snippets of her CD's at her website, and immediately ordered one of them. She has a magnificent soprano voice - the voice of an angel. Her harmony is done by her life partner, and he is also in her back up band.

I found Lise when I had to have my computer fixed, and her better half showed up. He is now my "go to" guy for my computer, having done a superb job efficiently and at a reasonable rate.

How lucky I am to know these people!!

Nick on Halloween

My wonderful Great Grandson, Nick, who is just 3 years old came trick-or-treating to Nana's house as a train engineer. He was so very proud of his outfit!! And, of course, his Mommy, Melissa, (my granddaughter) was so proud of him also. He got 2 nice candy bars for his great costume, and his absolute politeness. He offered bites for his Mom and his Nana before eating any himself. Now how great is that!!??!!

He is an adorable child with a love of cars, trucks, trains or anything with wheels. Any time he visits, he plays quietly with his cars (I keep a supply on hand) while the old folks visit. When it is time to go he quietly asks for a piece of candy, which I keep in a dish on the coffee table. Of course he has to have one for everybody, and hands them out before taking one for himself.

What a proud great Grandma I am!!

Computer Vacation

Well, I don't know if my computer was sick or just wanted some time off, but it has been "down" since Monday morning. I called the computer Doctor, and he came out and -- guess what-- it decided to work all of a sudden. Then, the next day, same thing, --not working. So, here comes the computer Dr. again. He put in a new power supply, and we were up and running, however, he forgot to tell the computer there was something new, and I couldn't get on line. Back came the Dr., and informed the computer that it was ok to be on line. So, now I think I'm set to go. What an ordeal!!
Normally, I have "Wordless Wednesday", where I show off some of my photographs from when I was well enough to go out and take them. Today, we'll call it "wordy" Wednesday. Since I had to tell everyone of my sick computer. We will do a "wordless" day soon, with a new photo for all to dream with.

My Sister's Birthday

My sister, Taffy, in St. Louis is my bestest friend as well as my sister. We have been by each other's side through thick and thin for as long as I can remember (well, almost). I was almost 17 when she was born (along with her twin Betty). So, the two girls have been like my children, as well as my sisters. They are both very, very special.

When Taffy called and said she wanted a purple ipod holder for her daily walks, I got real busy and put one together. I missed getting it in the mail in time, so it was late for her birthday this last Tuesday, but only by two days.

I have been waiting for her to say she received it so I could put it on my blog. She called this afternoon, her usual bubbly self, to thank me.

So, here is Taffy's ipod holder. I'm really glad she likes it.

New Item for Peppers2

Here is a new item for my 2nd store -Peppers2. It is the cutest cell phone/ipod holder I've made yet.

It slips over the head so you don't have to carry it (great for ipods), and makes finding a phone easy while holding a baby, or doing a balancing act in the grocery store. The cute little flowers attached to "strings" are actually buttons, and match the button closure.

A great stocking stuffer, or a gift for teachers, or others on your list who you need to give just a little something to.

Finished Pillow Cover

The pillow cover that I was working on in the hospital is now finished and for sale in my store. I love the way it turned out, and the colors are just yummy!!

Of course, the knitting I did in the hospital was the front, and the fun part to knit. The finishing that I did here at home was the mindless knitting of the back, and I thought it would never end, even though it didn't take as long as I thought it would.

This pillow cover is so bright and cheerul, and it would look beautiful on any chair or sofa. I like it well enough, that I will probably make one for myself. If ever I do make anything for myself.

What a Week!!

Things are finally back to normal (whatever that is). This previous Sunday morning I had severe chest pains with vomiting. Yuck!! I called 911, and was taken to the hospital. They treated me for a heart attack, which was the wrong thing to do. They almost lost me because treating me for a heart attack lowered my blood pressure to almost nothing. They scrambled around to take away the nitro patch, and washed my skin like crazy. I was in the hospital until Tuesday afternoon, with a final diagnosis of spasms of the esophagus. Not very fashionable, but not terminal either.

While I was at the hospital, I was knitting. That is, in between tests and needle pricks. Yup, I had my son bring me my knitting so I wouldn't go absolutely crazy.

I am making another pillow cover. This one looks like a stained glass window, and I love the colors of lemon yellow, and lime green with chocolate brown. It is very close to being finished, so I should be able to put it in my store very soon. The pillow form is 12" x 12".

Meantime, as soon as I got home, I started the ipod holder that my sister requested. Her birthday is coming up on Tuesday, and I had hoped that it would be done in time, however, since I was rudely interupted, it will be a few days late. All I will say for now is that it is purple.

Crochet Project

In between my knitting, and other little crafty things, I have been crocheting this "pillowghan".

A pillowghan is an afghan that can be folded up, and turned inside out, and it becomes a pillow. I chose some really bright colors, put them with a soft grey, and this is what the top of the pillow will look like when the pillowghan is all folded into a pillow.

The top of the pillow has a three dimensional rose. The rest of the afghan part does not have the rose, and is just a flat granny square. I chose the granny square format because this is my very first pillowghan, and I'm still figuring out how to do this. The granny square is a familiar format, and thus less stress.

The pillowghan is almost done!!, and will be posted here when it is finalized.

I knit this hat in a hurry, thinking it was just left-over yarn, and I might get a hat to give away. Well, surprise!! It turned out to be one of my favorite items. The grey is silvery, the white reminds me of a dusting of snow, and the little bits of color throughout the yarn make it special.

The fit is perfect, as the pattern stretches (or not) according to the head size.

I couldn't help but share this one. It is now in my store if you want to see more.

Christening Layette

I recently decided I wanted to do a baby set that would be suitable for a christening. I didn't realize I would be going on a journey.

I first did a white sweater, then a white hat. Next, I had to find a blanket that would fit the sweater and hat. I made a little filigree in the sweater and hat to put ribbon through, and wanted that for my "theme". I found this beautiful blanket pattern that has yarn running through it that looks like ribbon. So, I started knitting. The blanket takes a double strand of yarn throughout, which makes it super soft, and nice and thick. I was not accustomed to knitting with two strands of yarn, and this became my journey. It tangled, got caught on my knitting basket (only at the worst times), and was generally a pain in the tookus. However, the more I knitted on this blanket the more beautiful it became.

The end result is shown here. It is just beautiful, and it all goes together so perfectly.

Her name is Margaret, and she is what Etsy is all about. She is crafty, imaginitive, creative, and knows how to treat her customers.

"Local Gringos" is a "Must See" store for those who knit, crochet, stitch or work with fabric or sewing.

First, there is the hand cream. It is Yummy!!!! In various wonderful flavors and scents, you can get a marvelous selection with the little "sampler" pack, and try one at a time to see which one you will order over and over. My sister picked the lavender & sage, and I picked the citrus and cilantro. This hand cream not only smells wonderful, it keeps your fingers free of all those little cracks that get caught on the thread, yarn or fabric. And,!!! it is all natural. I recommend it highly, expecially if you do any embroidery or cross stictch.

Second, she has these Fabric Care Tags for those of us who knit items for resale. It makes me feel that my items are so very special when I send one out with one of her beautiful "Hand Knit Care Tags". They are beautifully done, and are a special compliment to all the work that goes in to knitting something by hand. A wedding Request

A little over a week ago I got a "Etsy convo" from a girl who wanted a grey (yes, grey) sweater for her one & 1/2 yr old niece for a wedding. I thought grey???? Then she said the wedding was Oct. 24th. ..... Yikes!! Well, I made the sweater in the style she chose, and it is just toooo sweet.

The girl sent me a picture of the birdesmaid dresses which are also grey, and they are very simple, stunning, and chic.

Well, I knit myself crazy with this one. I really wanted to get it done with time to spare. First, I had to order the darn yarn..... who keeps grey yarn for babies on hand? Then, just as I got going on the sweater, I went to the dentist, had a little episode, and landed in the emergency room for a day. How frustrating, knowing that my knitting was sitting there at home in the basket by my chair, and I was in a hospital bed. Aarrrgh!

Well, I finished the sweater, and off it went today. In plenty of time.

Sometimes you just have to persevere, have faith in God, and keep plugging along.

Well, I finally did something just for me.

A few years ago my Sister came to visit, and we did our "thing", and went to A C Moore. While there, I bought a kit for this little needlepoint card carrier/purse. This kit has sat all this time in the drawer just waiting for me to give it some attention.

A few weeks ago I was cleaning out some dawers and came across this, and had to smile... thinking of my special sister, and the good times we have when together. I grabbed the needlepoint and started working on it, and it is finally done, and I am using it!

The zipper unzips on all 4 sides, which makes it really nice for all those odd cards we get. Rewards cards, discount cards, Rx cards, pharmacy cards, .. they seem to go on and on these days. A regular credit card holder or the area in your wallet for cards is never large enough to hold all this extra stuff.

Now I have a place for these extras yiippppeeeee! Not only that, I made it and it is pretty.

New Pillow Cover

I did finish the pillow cover with the "leaf" design, and it came out sooo much nicer than I could have imagined. The yarn is a soft acrylic, and it is a joy to put this piece up to one's face, I can just imagine it for a nap on a rainy (or snowy) afternoon.
It certainly was fun watching the leaf emerge as I knit row after row. I did put buttons on the back of this one, and I am very please with how this turned out.
The color is a soft powder blue for those that love the shabby chic and cottage style.

Meantime, I am getting some dental work done, and the trauma stories I could tell would curl your toes. Not from the dental work, but outside forces seem to be at work here.

Lil Chick Tote is finished

I finished the Lil Chick Tote, and despite the fact that canvas is almost impossible to embroider on, it came out absolutely the cutest!!

I have it for sale at my 2nd Etsy Store. It is always such fun to put things in this store, as it is full of the things that I just have fun doing. No rhyme or reason... just fun things to play with.

I am working on some custom orders at the moment, so my "fun things" are on the back burner. Makes my fingers itch! I have so many fun things I want to play with. Hope it is a long winter (ugh!)

Camera Working--- These are my gifts

When my brother (Butch) and my sister (Taffy) came to visit they brought gifts. My sister said "pick one", and she had a bag just full of goodies. I picked the pillow that says "summer house". I just love it, and it reminds me of my wonderful home town that is full of "summer houses". I love the flagpole right in front of the house.

My brother is making these marvelous and lovely needle threaders. The one in the picture is made just for me. You see, at one time I drove an 18 wheeler cross-country. He made the handle for the threader in the form of a "stick shift". How clever. The end of the gear shift has a magnet embedded so if I drop my needle I can get it with the magnet. Again, how clever. I love the idea of having a needle threader I can actually get a grip on. He has these for sale in many sizes ans styles, and they can be purchased through my sister from her blog.

The third item -- a pin cushion... well, I kinda just took it. My brother made the base. It is made of "bloodwood", which is real special. Then my sister cross stitched the top. I am thrilled to have such a beautiful item in my posession that represents them both. How special.

It has been a long haul. I have not been feeling up to par, and it has been all I could do to just sit and knit and crochet. I decided today would be the big day to get back to my blog... but there always seems to be an obstacle.

My camera battery is dead. The charger got unplugged, so when I went to take a picture for my blog to show off.... no go. I am blogging anyway, camera or no camera. Yesterday I got my teeth fairly well taken care of, and will soon have nice new back teeth --- the better to eat you--- errr--- steak with.
My sister and brother have been here, and brought me some wonderful things.... if I only had my camera. I have finished some great stuff...... If I only had a camera.

This is just an update to let you know I am still here. I have another pillow cover almost ready for a picture, and am working on finishing the embroidered tote. They are both just tooooo wonderful, and I am enjoying the whole process.
I got a cortisone shot in my hip, (ouch!), and it seems to have worked. I won't know how much until we have bad weather. Here's to never knowing!!
I have just started a baby layette (sweater, hat and blanket) for my friend and neighbor, Gail. She is going to have a new grand daughter in October. Soon as it is done, I will be doing a neck warmer with some alpacca I bought in the spring. I Haven't decided on exactly which pattern to use for the neck warmer..... or maybe it will be a cowl. I have many patterns to chose from, so it will be a process of elimination.
I am also anxious for the tote to be done so I can start on another embroidery. Maybe one of my own design. They are so much fun.

Lacey Little Girl's Hat

This hat was such fun to make. It worked up easy with the angora yarn, and each row, as I built the foundation and it began to take shape was a new delight.

Now, all I can do is look at it and imagine it on a sweet little girl. At the beach, or a wedding this will look wonderful on any little one.

The pillow is finished. This time the cables are hard to see, but it sure looks nice on my wildly flowered sofa. The picture on the right shows the "envelope" style closing in the back making it easy to slip on and off for washing. Another time, I will probably add buttons to the back for a more professional look. This was quite easy, and I am anxious to do one that I can put in my store. I have designed (in my spare time) one with a leaf design, and another that will be all different bright colors in a geometric. I love the fact that most of it is mindless knitting, so I can take it with me to Dr.'s offices, watch a good movie or hold a reasonable conversation and still knit. Not too much of the "count every stitch" that doesn't lend itself well to other activities when one is of advanced age.

Now, I am off to finish the little flower for the lacey baby hat. Then, on to the next project. Or, maybe I should finish one that remains in my knitting basket as a UFO. We'll see.....

I really am still here knitting, etc. like crazy. I went to the Dr. and he put me on prednisone. So.. here come the shakes, and bloating, and the humongous hunger that goes with it. I should start feeling better, but it hasn't happened yet.
I have finished the pillow cover, and it is on the pillow. If I do say so myself, it looks pretty nice. I have finished a child's hat (lacy, crocheted, and very sweet), and tomorrow I will do the little flower that goes on it. I started a layette, but didn't like the yarn I was doing it with, so I rippppped and rippppped. The layette will be for my neighbor who is expecting a grand daughter in October. I ordered different yarn.
I made a scarf for "Dress for Success" as a donation, then added one of my purses with a tea tote (filled) in the purse. This is a wonderful cause, and I am delighted to be able to help someone get ahead.
In between all this I made a little gift for my brother-in-law for when he and my sister visit next month. He is so patient with us two sisters, and I love him dearly. It's just a little something - doesn't amount to much, but it says "I love you, and Thank You"
Soon as the sun shines again in this part of the woods I will be taking some pictures. Seems like we may never see the sun again. It is always dark a dreary these days.

Well, here I am trying very hard to feel better. Not making a lot of progress in that direction. I seem to have been productive though, as I have almost finished my knitting project. This is something entirely different for me... a pillow cover. I really like it, and for the most part it was mindless knitting, which has been just the ticket while I'm not feeling so well.

I'm not crazy about how the cables turned out. They are supposed to mirror each other, .. one slanting left.. the other slanting right..however, they look like entirely different cables.

I am fond of this though, and already have more patterns in mind to do more of these. I think possibly a bolster size might be nice too.

Meantime, I just keep on knitting whenever I am upright.

Still Busy

Even though I have been sick, I am still busy in between laying down and resting. I seem to be taking forever recovering from whatever bug I had.

This is just one project I am working on. a little tote that I am embroidering, and embellishing with a little felt bird. Making the bird was easy. A little felt and the scissors. The embroidery is another matter. Getting the needle to go through canvas is not as easy as it looks. I do, however, love the results so far. Since I took the picture, I have done the bird's legs, the flower stems and some of the leaves. It is going to be lovely. I will be putting this in my "2nd" store (Peppers2), as I consider this play.

The items in my 2nd store are things that I hope would make someone smile. Happy things, and this little tote is certainly going to be a happy thing.

Watch for the finished product sometime soon.

Plant Rescue

Some people rescue whales, or dogs, or children. Last week at the grocery store I saw this pretty pot on sale. I had to have it!! I put it in my cart, and wandered back to the flower department to see if they had anything worthy of this pretty pot. There they were - begonias - on sale. I spotted a yellow blossom, and picked up the plant. The poor thing was on it's last leg. No wonder it was on sale. The leaves were brown and crisp at the bottom, and there were at least three buds that had turned brown. What neglect!!

I, of course, had to buy this poor thing and rescue it if I could. I brought it home and tenderly took care of it - repotting, getting the soil just the right moistness, and giving it a little touch of Miracle Grow. I had to remove the bottom leaves, and the brown buds in order to make it healthy again.

Now I have these absolutely beautiful blossoms coming along (although on skinny bare stems). I couldn't help but take a picture. Actually, the picture doesn't do justice to the sweet blossoms that look like miniature roses.

The Pine Cone Project

Browsing through my "Favorite Sellers", I came across The "Pine Cone Project" at the Northernlodge store on Etsy. It seems that the store owner's 17 year old daughter has been out collecting pine cones in the mountains of Colorado to sell to crafters like me to pay for her school clothes for her Senior year of school. I found this all very refreshing. No spoiled little girl with her hand out here. Not only is she resourcefull, but she is very creative with this endeavor.

Here is a excerpt from the pine cone description:

"We live in the woods in Colorado-so we have an ABUNDANCE of pinecones. Our trees are just starting to drop their cones-so all of these will be FRESH-no overwintered, grayed out, or damaged cones. All of these are beautiful reddish tones, and have a great pine smell. The cones are a mixture of Ponderosa pine, Pinon pine and Douglas fir.

I have a neighbor and "knitting buddy" who is English. She sends away for this special tea which she loves, and likes to carry with her. Trouble is.. the tea gets fine and some comes out of the bag into her purse. So.... I made her a "Tea Tote".

It was so easy, and such fun, I decided to put some in my store. Then I discovered they are good for many things. Such as moist towelettes, artificial sweetener (hundred of us carry that) lip balm, "light days" pads......... the list goes on.

So, here are some in my store. They are made of cotton yarn, and I crocheted them in a tight pattern so they would be sturdy without being bulky. I may try to knit some at some time. My next one will be red.. for Christmas. Oh my, I can hardly believe I said that!!

There are so many artists on Etsy that have oodles of talent, and huge amounts of "niceness".

The other day I was shopping for a pot to hold my new begonia plant, and came across Danceswithclay. Her work is stunning!! She loves making pottery, and is inspired by nature ... leaves, shells, butterflies, etc. This shows in the items that she makes. She also likes the patina of the weathered look, which makes her designs very rich looking.. I did fall in love with her pots.

However, she did not offer the little saucer that goes under the pot to catch the drips. I sent her a little conversation saying I wished she had the saucers. She answered me back saying why (weeping of the water through this type of pottery), and offered to make me a saucer at no charge. Now, Ladies and Gentlemen.........This is what Etsy Artists do. They have the most beautiful items in the world, and will go out of their way to make you happy - just like you were in their shop in person.

Well, by that time, I had already purchased another pot from another artist. But because Dancingwithclay was so thoughtful, and her work so delightful, I thought featuring her here would make up a little for the lost sale. (mine)

She also makes porcelain clay birds......just because she enjoys it, and loves doing it. They are absolutely beautiful and do make me smile when I see them.

Her items are reasonably priced, and I'm sure you will get the same personal treatment that I did when you visit her store.

My Great Grandson - Nick - is having his 3rd birthday tomorrow.

We are having a cookout, and of course, cake and ice cream. The whole family will be there, and I imagine he will be very excited. The last time I was there, we had strawberry shortcake. We he heard the word "cake".... he just automatically burst into song "Happy birthday to you". We had to explain that it was no one's birthday. He was quite confused. "Then... why cake?"

Tomorrow - we can all sing, and I'm sure he will join us.

I get him bonds for every occasion, but I also got him finger puppets. The 2 brightly colored ones I purchased from noelledoodle, and the little brown one from knitwitknits on Etsy. I know he will enjoy them for the quiet times just before bed when his mom reads to him.

New Ideas Take Shape

I met this marvelous Etsy designer of cross stitch charts, and asked her if she could do her designs in embroidery. This was about a week ago.

We have had such fun... e-mailing back and forth and sharing life and giggles, and coming up with digital stamps for her store.

Her designs are of Chinese characters, and she does have the translations for all of them. She sent me this design...........Translation: "Freedom".........., and I am embroidering it for myself. She had some issues with size and placement of the characters, but we have all that ironed out, and her digital stamps are going to be up in her store this coming weekend.

Her store is DPeaGreenDesigns, and currently contains many beautiful cross stitch designs. As soon as she gets her "digital stamps" up on her site, I will be purchasing the "peace" Chinese character to embroider for my store peppers2, and possibly to do a nice greeting or notecard with it.

Southwestern Rice & Bean Salad

First let me say that I absolutely hate kidney beans, and I would rather not eat any rice, thank you. Now that I have that out of the way... I have a really great recipe for summer. It goes together in an instant (well, almost), and most everyone loves it.

I first made this salad from a recipe I saw in the newspaper in California many years ago. It was perfect to take to the VFW for pot luck suppers, where the men just loved it. Then, I moved to New York, and lost the recipe. I started searching the internet in the year 2000, and finally found it this year. I am so happy to have this recipe again. I just hate living all summer with salads that contain mayonaise. Much as I like them, it is nice to get away from them from time to time, and in spite of the kidney beans and the rice, I love, love this salad.

To give credit...... The recipe is from Jeanne Chapel - Fatfree Digest - adapted from "Country" magazine.

2 C cold cooked long grain rice

1 16oz. can kidney beans, rinsed and drained

1 C Whole kernel corn

1/2 C Sliced green onions with tops

1/2 C Picante sauce

1/4 C Bottled fat free Italian dressing

1 ts Ground cumin

Combine all ingredients---- Cover and refrigerate 2 - 3 hours.

That's It!!!!!

So easy, and really quite good. I Would like to hear if anyone tries it.

A Little Pouch Purse

This is one of the funnest things I've done in a long time.

Actually, I purchased the little purse. I dont have the right facility to do any felting where I live, or I would probably be doing quite a bit of it.

So, I purchased the little purse, brought it home and needlefelted a little flower on it, then embroidered a small flower, and just a little tiny flower on the back. I had never done needle felting before, so this was a new adventure for me. I discovered that it is not as easy to get the shape you are looking for as it looks.

But, this is my first time, and I know what to look for next time, and will (hopefully) learn from my mistakes.

It was fun to do, so you can look forward to more of these in my second store.

No picture today... I am working on something that is new to me, and I don't know how it will turn out. I am doing some needlefelting on a small purse. So far so good.
When the needlefelting is done, if it looks half way like something I will embroider a little bit on the purse also. Suffice it to say that I'm doing flowers.
Right now I think it looks like something I would purchase if I was in the market for such a thing. In other words.... it is pretty cute.

Well, the snowman is done, and it didn't turn out perfect. I must admit it is adorable, however, I learned a lot during this process. I think I used the wrong thread to add the beads. I will work on that. And, ironing it after the beads were attached was a challenge.

I know what not to do next time.... just remains to be seen if I know what to do.

Actual Lunch Time Doodles

Here is a "doodle" I did while sitting with nothing else to do with my hands. It started out as a light pencil scratch then I got down to business, and actually did the design. Thank goodness for erasures, because I used it quite often....over and over.

Then, I finally got what I had in my head. I went over it again with the pencil, then used transfer paper to get the design onto some material.

Now I am embroidering the design on the small piece of material. I will be using small white beads for the little drops of snow.

Then, the final process - I will glue it onto a blank card. And, there it is.. a Christmas Card.... A really pretty one.

I have an idea to do one with a Christmas tree..... That will be in the works when this is done.

I came across this beautiful jewelry shop on Etsy. Normally, I don't pay much attention to jewelry because I am allergic to metal, but this girl's pieces are exquisite.

Is It My Birthday? .... No!

I was beginning to think it was my birthday yesterday when the mail came and there was a package from my Sister. She knows (of course) that I have been doing a lot of embroidery lately. In fact, I asked her where to go to buy some nice linen to embroider on. She gave me the name of a place on the internet. Well, I had some linen (not a lot), and thought I would use that for now. Then she called and said she would send me a few pieces she had that were extras. I was thrilled.

The package that arrived was just chuck full of lots and lots of linen. All colors... even purple and peach. As you can see from the picture, I will be supplied with embroidery linen for a very long time. This was soooo special!! Just can't wait now to get going and do something with it all.

She also sent a little cross stitch she did. I have 3 more of these and they are just adorable. I guess now I could call it a "collection". This new one will get put up on the wall with the other 3 in the morning. (Too hot now to wield a hammer)

It's been a while since I udated my little blog here. I have been busy, but the weather has me under the weather!! It has been very very humid, with showers and rain every day. This does not do well for me. And, there seems to be no end to it. Every day I spend more and more time laying down on the couch, even though I sleep 8 hours every night. (Fitfull sleep).

Enough of that!! I did do this little embroidery. I call it "Dancing Daisies". As they said in the embroidery guild....They really do look like they are dancing. This was fun to do, and it makes me smile.

I'm crocheting some small purple flowers (violets?), and I think I shall put them on a notecard like I did the pink flowers. They are so little and so cute.

I am also working on getting a blanket done for the linus project.

Like I said... I have been busy.... just a slower busy than usual.

Knitting Group

This is my Wednesday Morning Knitting Group. We are a small group, but this is a small senior housing facility. We meet for a few hours every Wednesday morning to share stories, patterns, and camaraderie. We bolster each other up when we are down, and share our happiness as well as our sadness. Mostly, we laugh a lot.

On the left is Kitty. She is from England, and claims to knit "The English Way". Kitty has 6 children and 4 grandchildren. I love her accent, and her enthusiasm for life.

In the middle is Audrey. She is from right here in Saratoga Springs. She knits and crochets faster than anyone I know, and she never looks at what she is doing. ..... Thus, there is the occasional "bleep" word. Audrey has 11 children, and 28 grandchildren. Needless to say, she has a wonderful outlook on life. She had to, in order to survive 11 children.

On the right is Betty. Betty is originally from the area near Watertown, NY - The 1.000 Island area. Betty recently lost her husband of 60+ years, and is trying hard to adjust to life without him. It has been hard for her, but she has 4 children and 14 grandchildren who are seeing to it that she keeps busy. Also, we are all trying to help her through this rough time.

Since I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren........That means that between 4 of us there are 23 children and 48 grandchildren. Needless to say, most of the stories we tell are about our little ones. I didn't even try to count the Great Grandchildren. I just know there are a bunch.

Right now, the group is working on making blankets for the children that go to the "Hole-in-the-Wall" summer camp. This is the camp that was started by Paul Newman for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. 900 blankets are needed just for our region. Actually, I am still creating... I have two knitting projects going right now, and this cute embroidery. It is a little bird perched on a branch. Ever so cute!! I got the design from a fellow Etsy seller: http://softpencil.etsy.com/. Her designs are sweet and mostly whimsical. She is very talented.

I learned to embroider before there was television!! I remember two summers in a row, when I was about 10 & 11 years old, there were about 6 of us girls that got together several afternoons a week to embroider. Our Moms helped and we helped each other. I can still remember the thrill when I finally mastered the french knot.

So now 60 years later -- here I am embroidering, and thoroughly enjoying it.

My little bird will be done shortly, and will be in my "peppers2" store.

Here I Go Again

I have been doing a lot of reading lately. I do seem to do this in spurts.

I just finished "Grace", by Richard Paul Evans. He also wrote "The Christmas Box", and "The Gift".

It is a book that is written very simply. You are reading along, and don't realize that the story and characters have grabbed your heart. The story line is a teenage boy harbours a young girl who has run away from home. They fall in love, but it is an innocent love of youth. She hides in his "clubhouse" in his backyard, and he has quite a time trying to feed her and keep her warm through the cold weather.

It sounds simple, and yes, it is. But it is the simplicity of the story and the writing of the story that suddenly creeps into your soul.

I do highly recommend this book. It is a good read.

Cute Store

I just found this cute ...and Brand New... little store.

She has these pretty painted pots with all the ingredients to grow you own herbs. What a great idea!! I may have to buy the sage one. But, she has lavender, and chives, and rosemary also. She doesn't give her name, but she is from Winnemucca, Nevada. Now, anyone who lives in a place called Winnemucca has got to be a fun person. To quote her profile... Her favorite materials to work with are anything that makes a mess, or gets her into trouble. My kind of person.

Another Book Review

I'm leaving the book review on the side right where it is becuase I want as many people as possible to see it and read the book. (The Letters)

This is a review of "The Friday Night Knitting Club".
The book is way too long for the type of story and the kind of reader that it would attract. It is a lovely story, and it shows how knitting can draw people of very different backgrounds and stations in life together in a common bond. A bond that is very strong. The characters are wonderful in their diversity, and it is fun to get to know each one seperately. However, the book is still too long for the type of book it is.
Read it if you have nothing else to do.

Yellow Baby Sweater

Well, here it is... all done. This little sweater and hat turned out really cute, in spite of all the trouble with the yarn.

Now I am on to other wonderful things. I am doing a mobius that reminds me of the little towns in Mexico with all their colorful items they have for sale to the tourists. And, after my daughter stole my pretty knit dish towel, I am making another for myself.

The "mobius" is from the UFO (UnFinished Objects) basket that I have since sorting out my yarn stash. I can't wait for this basket to hold only current works in progress, instead of old UFO's.

Mink Yarn

Here is the mink yarn. It is so very beautiful, and so soft to the touch it is like touching air. They do have colors, however, I chose the "natural". I can't imagine have mink yarn that is pink.

The yarn is real mink fiber blended with fine quality Mongolian cashmere, and it was developed by Great Northern Yarns in August of 2008. The yarn has wonderful properties, and knitting stimulates blossoming of the mink and cashmere fibers. The yarn can be washed before or after knitting.

No Animals are harmed making this yarn.

It is DK weight, with 5.5 stitches per inch on #6 needles.

I have 2 skeins that I treasure, and will make something wonderful for myself with them when I come upon a pattern that is worthy. (I think I have one, but will ponder it for a bit).

Pretty Lace Collar

This collar was knit with bamboo yarn. The yarn is really, really soft. Bamboo yarn is the latest yarn craze, what with all the talk about trying to save the environment. Now they tell us that the processing of this yarn takes a multitude of chemicals, and the processing to make it into yarn is very destructive.

So much for going natural.

What could be more natural than the wool of a sheep or alpacca? I think from now on I will be using the wonderful wool that our animals give us.

Speaking of which, I have recently purchased some "Mink" yarn. It is collected from the wee animals when they shed, and spun into a lovely extra soft yarn that is yummy. It is very much like alpacca - worsted weight -, but much softer.

Meantime, I love this collar!! It really is very soft, so no itching or scratching on the neck. The color is great for setting off a plain sweater, and does wonders for the complexion. You can find this for sale at my Etsy store. Now, I just might make myself one.

UFO

This is my latest "UFO" (UnFinished Object). However, it won't take long and it will be a finished baby sweater and in my store. I just love the way this new yarn makes it's own stripes. It is Bernat Baby Jaquard. Although, the yarn often leaves a lot to be desired. It has way too many knots, and my friend got several skeins with machine oil on them. It's like the little girl with a curl. When it is good it is very, very good, and when it is bad it is horrid.

I particularly like this pattern because I can do it all in one piece on straight needles. Working with circular needles is often easier, but I personally think that the straight needles give me a more even stitch. The pattern is easy, and goes fast, and always comes out really nice.

The kitchen towel that is pictured in one of my older blogs has found a new home. My daughter finally paid attention, and saw it in my kitchen. "Oh Mom....... I love it and it is my colors". Of course, it went home with her, and I am knitting her another one, and, one for myself (again).

The weather here has been very rainy, foggy, and cold and damp. Very, very bad for me. It is all I can do to get dressed in the morning and make my bed. (So, sometimes I don't) I really need a couple of dry sunny days to catch up on some housework.

No picture this time.... Just updates.

No. 1............... The swiffer cover is a go. It does a great job of picking up dirt, dust, hair, and anything else that is residing on your floor. It is not meant for using as a wet mop, but if I can stop buying swiffer dry cloths, I am that much ahead, and so is the planet.

No. 2............... My "stash" is all cleaned out, sorted, and put away, hopefully in some kind of order. I did throw away two large bags of unusable yarn, and I had two large bags I am passing around to my knitting friends before I donate the remainder to charity. Our local senior center will get some and the local art center will get some for their children's programs.
Everyone is a winner with this project.
I would take a picture of the end result, but it is in a closet, and taking a picture is not feasable.

Ok everyone......... sit back, relax, have a cup of coffee or tea and join me in celebrating my temporary orderliness . Yes, temporary. I know that within 6 months it will be a mess again, and I will be starting all over.

My Stash

"What the heck are you doing???", you say. I am sorting my yarn stash. Yup, that is my yarn stash piled all over my Queen size bed. It has grown to the point of being unmanageable. What you don't see in the pictures is the two large bags I threw away, and the two large bags I will give away.

Much of the yarn I didn't remember having!! How nice..... like going to the yarn store in my storage closet. I have found some really neat pink yarn from a long time ago that will make some really nice hand warmers. I found some wonderful yarn for some men's hats and scarves, and some absolutely lovely yarn that I sill have to think about before I commit to anything.

I think this has put a stop to buying any more yarn for quite a while. Recently, I bought some yarn for a baby sweater, and today I discovered I already had that particular yarn, but at the bottom of the heap. And, that is what it was in my storage closet... just a heap. Then, there was the heap in my clothes closet that rested on my shoes, and the heap in my den that I just shoved into the corner.

I now have a box of UFO's (Unfinished objects), One is a pair of socks I was working on when I moved into this apartment in August of 2001. With only a few inches left to finish the pair of socks.....why, oh why didn't I finish them??? Another is a pair of mittens pretty much in the same condition. Another 1/2 hour and they will be done.........why didn't I finish them at the time? Only God knows.

My knitting partner from one of our upstairs apartments took a look at what I was doing as I was just finishing up piling everything onto my bed. Her eyes got real big and she burst into song: "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty" and we threw our hand into the air. It's a good thing we have a sense of humor, or I might cry.

Stay tuned for wonderful things to come out of this stash. Hopefully ... lovely things and a smaller pile.

Prototype

I finally have a prototype for my re-usable swiffer duster. Actually I found this pattern in a book called "Mason-Dixon Knitting". I knew all along that there must be a good way to knit something that could take the place of buying all those swiffer duster refills.

I used some leftover yarn to make this first one, and it came out pretty nice even with changing yarn in odd places. The pattern is a variation of an old dish cloth pattern, that has been adapted for the swiffer mop/duster thingy.

So now what, you say.............. I will be giving this to my German friend who is the most persnickety housecleaner alive. I will let her test it. After she has used it for a while, I will get back to you all with the results. From the looks and feel of this, I think the results could be good. I can depend on her being honest with me, and I shall pass it along to you good or bad.

We shall see........

Bad Weekend Turned into Good Weekend

Oh My!! This last weekend I was supposed to go and see the "Racing City Chorus" (barbershop) at their annual show. I say supposed... because I was very sick and couldn't go. What a disappointment. Instead, I had a very close relationship with my bathroom. Nuff said.

In between times, when I could function, I finished my scarf. I just love it. It is definitely one of those scarves that my daughter would call a sophisticated rag. It does look like an old rag, but looks delightful when worn. I love the washed denim look also.... a color you can put with just about anything...... like an old pair of jeans.

Also, this weekend, I read this book......... "The Letters"

Lucy's Cupboard

Today I am blogging about a fellow Etsy Artist. Her name is Beth, but the name of her store is Lucy's Cupboard. Beth does decorative painting, and has done this type of painting for 30 years. My Mom (God rest her soul) taught decorative painting, and, like Beth, would paint just about anything she could get her hands on. I remember when Mom painted our garbage cans, and the garbage men were sooooo careful when emptying our garbage into the truck. The had never seen garbage cans with pretty pink flowers painted on them.

Beth is that kind of person. Her store has little glass jars painted with beautiful flowers, and a papier mache box... also beautifully painted.

Stop by her store and take peek. I know, that even if you are not in the market for a little painted object, that her store will make you smile.

Sad Day

Today was not the best day for me. I will not post a picture, suffice it to say I had to give up my cat. I have had her for 6 years, and she was my constant companion. However, because of my medical condition, I couldn't do the Kitty Litter thing anymore, and the rest of her care was way more than I could handle. I tried for over a year to find a good home for her to no avail. Finally it got so bad I had to do something to save myself. I turned her over to the "Seniors or Seniors" program at the local shelter. That is where they place senior animals with senior citizens. Hopefully she will find some older person (the requirement is over 55) who is not only willing, but happy to take care of her little needs.

And so, sadly, I said Goodbye to Misty. I will miss her, but perhaps she will be just the ticket for someone who really needs her friendship.

My Latest Creation

Hope all the Mom's had a wonderful Mother's Day!!

My latest creation is similar to the green hippie style cell phone holder. They aren't' exactly alike, because I rarely make anything that is 2 alike. This is made with the same chenille yarn, and has faux suede fringe along with the chenille fringe. The beads and button closure are completely different from the green one. This one has large beads on the suede, and long oval beads on the chenille. I just love the color of this chenille. It is a rich, yummy mocha that makes me think of Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. Chenille yarn is extremely hard to knit with. I think this may be the last of these.

More on My Weekend Travels

During my travels with the rental car this last weekend, I went to see my nephew, Buddy. Buddy has this wonderful dog. I can't remember the breed, but "Ruby" has almost no tail. Well, she fell in love with me and her little rear end waved back and forth like a windshield wiper in a bad storm. She is sooooo sweet. How could I not fall in love back!! I just wish I had a picture.

Buddy and his girl-friend Linda work at a resort in the Adirondacks on Lake George. During the winter there is no work, so Buddy has filled his time with woodworking. Pictured is a Needle-threader he made with Adirondack wood. It is just beautiful, and the workmanship is delightful to the eye. The gracefull curves are so elegant, and it narrows down at just the right spot to really get a good hold on it to get the thread through the needle. Definitely not one of those delicate aluminum hard to hold onto things we all buy at the store. I am honored that he gave me one of his creations, and will not only use it, but treasure it.

My Etsy Yarn Purchase

A while back I purchased some yarn on Etsy. This yarn is probably some of the prettiest and nicest to touch I have ever purchased. It is from http://yarntopiatreasures.etsy.com/. The price is extremely reasonable for the high quality of the yarn. It is a wool-silk blend, and the silk is what makes it so yummy to the touch. The colors, (she calles them ecru, mocha & chocolate) are handpainted. The richness of these colors are what made me love this yarn at first sight.

I loved this yarn so much that I put it in a bowl and put it on my coffee table. Everyone who sees it can't help but oooh and aaah and touch it.

Now, here it is for everyone to see.

Someday, I will make something for myself with it.

Working With My New Stash

Well, I rented a car for 3 days, and now I am exhausted. All that running around, I'm just not used to it. I must say I got a lot in, considering I only went out in the afternoons. And.... taaadaaa.... I got a Big Mac! Now that takes care of that craving for a few months.

I have already started the scarf for a friend. As you can see it is very blue. I think the picture is a brighter blue than the actual scarf. Anyway, I think it is very pretty, and may make myself one, as I grow more attached to this one every day. I am using a "carry-along" called "Joy", with a soft DK blue. There is a little bit of yellow and yellow-green in the carry-along which gives it character, and some depth.

I didn't think I would be posting while I had my rental car.... but.....

I went to the Fabulous yarn shop in downtown Saratoga Springs today - "Saratoga Needle Arts". and made my little purchase. I didn't spend as much as I thought I would. I guess I was trying to be too conservative with my hard earned cash.

Anyway, here is the result . Mostly, I got alpaca. That is the green and very pink in the back. A wonderful blend that is delightful and easy to work with. I also got some "flag" style carry-along to make a scarf for a friend that requested blue. I got a small ball of cream Sirdar, that although completely man-made, feels and works up like cashmere. Then .. in their sale bin, (and who can't resist the sale bin?) I got some peach carry-along that was just too pretty to pass up.

I think the alpaca will turn into wrist warmers and scarflettes for winter. The cream Sirdar will be a baby hat or perhaps baby leg warmers. The peach carry-along will become a scarf when I pair it with some peach angora I have that is just hanging around.

I can't wait to start working with this beautiful yarn, but must finish what I am working on first.

This Weekend

Hello to all -

I don't own a car anymore, so this weekend I'm treating myself to a rental car. From noon Friday to noon Monday, I will be roaming about here and there doing all sorts of wonderful things. Of course, "wonderful" depends on your prospective. I will go to Denny's and order off the senior menu. I will get my hair cut. I will go to the Dollar Store, and I will visit the Lake where I grew up.

Lake George is so beautiful, and I certainly miss being able to get in the car and just drive up there to rid myself of the home sickness I so often feel when away for any length of time. If I am lucky, I will be able to see my nephew and his girl friend, who work right there on the lake.

I have my list for the Dollar store, and Jo Ann's all ready to go, and am trying to figure out which other places to eat as I toodle down the road. Maybe McDonald's. "What???", you say. Well, I love a Big Mac's occasionally, and when you don't have a car...... there are no Big Mac's.

So, next Monday (or Tuesday if I'm really tired) I will be posting on my little excursions. Meantime, ............I'm off to see the wizard.......................

What to do with leftover yarn

I had this yarn left from making a little size 1 baby dress. What to do??

This is what happened.

I just started crocheting, with no particular pattern in mind. Personally, I think it came out real well.

The dark brown ribbon seems to make the piece complete. I was disappointed that the store did not have grograin ribbon for this, and reluctantly bought satin. It couldn't be more perfect!! I was lucky that what I wanted was not available.

I could just see this with a prom dress, or a pair of jeans and T-shirt. It would be versatile and go with anything.

Granny Square Baby Blanket

Here it is, as promised, the granny square baby blanket.

I need to do a medical treatment four times a day, and it takes 20 minutes each time. I have the proper equipment that leaves my hands free, and I am able to do special small creations. for a couple of weeks all I did was make little granny squares out of left over yarn. This is the result. I think it is adorable, and so old-fashioned looking.

The yarn is soft. ---- Not light soft, but squishy soft. I can just see a little one holding it close, and squeezing it with his/her hand.

Perfect for dreaming.....................
